This is a full-time position including every other weekend! 12pm - 8pm

TITLE : Porter/Floor Care Person (Day and Evening Porter/Floor Person)

DEFINITION: The Porter/Floor Care Person is a person who after in-service training is qualified to

maintain the facility in a clean and orderly manner with emphasis on antiseptic technique.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS: The Porter/Floor Care Person - should have completed grammar school, and preferably be a high school graduate. He/She should be in good physical condition and have the ability and understanding to work in a geriatric setting. The Porter/Floor Care Person should be neat, pleasant, dependable, cooperative and interested in his/her job.

FUNCTIONS : All the following duties shall be performed under the direction and supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor.

  • Know nursing home policies and responsibilities.

  • Know fire and disaster plans.

  • Know proper usage of cleaning equipment, proper chemical and dilution methods.

  • Know proper methods of collecting and disposing of waste materials from residents’ rooms and all areas.

  • Know how to use proper techniques in lifting to minimize personal injury and damage to nursing home properties.

  • Know proper procedures and methods of cleaning.

  • To assist in maintaining overall cleanliness and appearance of the building.

  • Observe resident rooms to insure them to be free of obstacles that may present safety hazards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collection of waste receptacles from resident rooms and cleaning of receptacles.

  • Replace liners as directed.

  • Collection of waste materials from designated areas and cleaning of receptacles of same.

  • Dust mop, and damp mop resident bathrooms and other areas as designated by Housekeeping Supervisor.

  • Dust mop and damp mop dining areas when assigned.

  • Clean and disinfect sinks, bath tubs, commodes, toilets, walls and all fixtures.

  • Buff floors of assigned areas daily.

  • Replenish toilet tissue and paper towels as needed.

  • Report any maintenance problems to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

  • Responsible for cleaning and supplying service carts with proper materials and equipment.

  • Cleaning of elevators.

  • Assist with the proper cleaning of service areas e.g. Activities Room, Employee’s Dining Room, Physical Therapy Room, Offices, Locker rooms, Public lavatories.

  • Must report any accident or incident immediately to your Supervisor.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Housekeeping Supervisor.

  • Strip and wax corridors, dining rooms, large areas, bathrooms and patient rooms.

  • Spray wax corridors, dining rooms, large areas, bathrooms and patient rooms.

  • Clean and mop corridors, dining rooms, large areas, bathrooms and patient rooms.

  • Collect and dispose of garbage from dining rooms, diet kitchens and all garbage containers.

  • Fill in for laundry staff when needed. Example: (Evening lunch breaks)

  • Clean sidewalks and outside areas designated by the nursing supervisor in your Supervisor’s absence. Including, shoveling snow in the winter months.

EXPERIENCE : Three months preferred.

CONTACTS : Residents, visitors, nursing staff, doctors, delivery men, other nursing home personnel. Must adjust routine to the convenience of all others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands, walks, reaches, bends, climbs ladders most of the day. Pushes, pulls, lifts, carries or handles medium weight up to 70 pounds equipment, materials and supplies most of the day. Intermittently heavier objects over 70 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Exposed daily to refuse, dirt, dust, body wastes and odors.

  2. Subject to hazards:

  • wet floors- ladders- falls.

  • lifting

  • extremes in temperature

  • exposed to cleaning chemicals, such as all purpose cleaners and germicidal detergents.
