Where:

HFH Summer Camps are located an hour north of New York City, on the grounds of the 52,000-acre Harriman State Park. A lush preserve of woodland and lakes straddling New York’s Rockland and Orange counties, the park has over 200 miles of trails, 31 lakes and reservoirs, camping grounds, beaches, and an abundance of wildlife.

We are seeking an upbeat and resourceful leader/team player for the position of Camp Cook.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with the camp leadership to plan, implement, and adapt a camp meal program to the daily conditions of a sleepaway summer camp.

  • Prepare and serve three meals and a snack per day, meeting schedules and timelines.

  • Supervise kitchen and dining room staff for the implementation and development of an effective and enjoyable food service operation.

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all food and food-related items stored in the kitchen.

  • Maintain standards regarding sanitation, appearance, and maintenance of the kitchen, equipment, grounds, and outdoor garbage area as set by HFH Summer Camps and the New York State Department of Health.

  • Work with the Operations Director and other staff on the buying of food on a weekly basis.

    Qualifications:

  • Desire to work and live in the outdoors from June 9th to August 8th, 2025.

  • Knowledge of and experience in group feeding operations for 100+ persons.

  • Ability to prepare foods according to a diverse menu, mostly from scratch (except for baked goods).

  • Knowledge of all aspects of Camp Kitchen and Dining Room management.

    You will also need to provide:

  • Three letters of reference.

  • A physical exam by a licensed Medical Doctor and be up to date with all required immunizations.

  • Additional special skills and certifications (First Aid, CPR, EMT, and others) are a plus.

  • Staff Orientation:

  • Admin/EMTs: Monday, June 9

  • Camp Power: Tuesday, June 10

  • Lifeguards/Unit Leaders: Friday, June 13

  • Activity Specialists: Tuesday, June 17

  • General Counselors: Wednesday, June 18

  • Last Day for Staff: Friday, August 8

As per the order of the Commissioner of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, all HFH Camps employees MUST provide proof of having received a COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, all staff must have documented their MMR immunization with month, day, and year. Two shots must be documented.
