University of Rochester Security Rep II, MAG in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provide staff and guests with a superior customer service experience while safeguarding the integrity of MAG's exhibitions and irreplaceable art collection. Welcomes staff, guests and vendors and relays information and direction of routine and limited nature. Performs time sensitive rounds to observe and contribute to a safe and secure environment for museum members, guests, volunteers, staff, collections, facilities and grounds.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver exceptional customer service experience to museum guests.

  • Gain knowledge of art collection, museum activities and special events to effectively answer questions and direct guests.

  • Observe and protect the art collection by patrolling assigned areas.

  • Work closely with UR Public Safety & MAG Facilities Director to ensure safe and smooth operations.

  • Report unusual behavior and injuries to UR Public Safety Officer.

  • Have awareness of the physical building and report problems.

  • Tactfully enforce and explain Museum rules.

  • Defuse disturbances without interrupting the orderly flow of museum business.

  • Maintain a professional demeanor under pressure.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Be a supportive team member to reach common goals.

  • Assist with safe evacuation during emergencies.

  • Distribute and secure employee keys.

  • Maintain sign in/out key logs.

  • Monitor surveillance cameras for suspicious activity.

  • Sign for packages and artwork.

  • Monitor building equipment controls.

  • Required to work weekends, some evenings, some holidays, and Clothesline Festival.

  • Proficient in the use of phone and 2-way radio.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or completed GED required or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prior experience in customer service is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. Microsoft/Outlook skills preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $16.92 - $23.69 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
