Job Summary (Essential Functions): To consistently supervise and monitor the pool and pool deck with member and guest safety being the top priority. To implement all of Oak Hill’s water safety policies and procedures. To work cohesively with pool attendees and other staff members to create a memorable and safe experience for members and guests. Must be able to work a flexible shift that includes early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and extended shifts if needed. Expected to work x hours per week throughout the year and additional hours during event weeks. All other duties as needed. Duties & Responsibilities: Supervises and observes swimmers at all times to ensure their safety. Administers care for swimmers’ minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises. Maintains amenities in and cleanliness of changing rooms, bathrooms and showers. Vacuums pool bottom; empties automatic skimmer; skims bugs and other debris from surface to prepare pool for daily use. Assists in organizing clinics and private swimming lessons for members as directed by Oak Hill Management. Enforces rules of conduct at the pool. Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items. Organizes and monitors pool games at all times; suggests pool-side games. Places rescue tube and ring buoy on the lifeguard chair in the morning; returns these and all swimming aids and pool toys to the lifeguard locker when the pool closes. Straightens the pool areas throughout the day. Maintains all necessary records determined Oak Hill Management. Attends all meetings as directed by Oak Hill Management. Performs required pool pre-opening and closing duties. Informs Oak Hill Management about unresolved member or guest disruptions that could cause a safety problem. Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Pool Director and Pool Supervisor. Experience Prior Lifeguard experience. Competitive swimming experience as either a coach or athlete preferred but not essential. Education High school or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Sports or Recreational Management preferred. Licenses and Special Requirements Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate. American Red Cross Basic First Aid required, training on AED units and possession of a current Red Cross CPR card. Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits. Valid driver’s license. Physical Demands and Work Environment Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Able to meet and perform the physical requirements of the job and to work effectively in an environment that is typical of this position. Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, and pulling. Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Must be 18 years of age. Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions. Must have a reliable form of transportation to and from work. General Information Scheduled Shifts: Full-time, seasonal position. Days and hours are based on club operations and weather conditions. Regularly works 45+ hours per week.
