Position Summary: The Dining Room Assistant creates a warm and positive atmosphere for residents to enjoy their daily meals, works with a multi-disciplinary team to provide meaningful and quality service to anticipate residents’ needs, and provides a sanitary and welcoming neighborhood kitchen which reflects the preferences of those residents who live in the neighborhood. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with helping Elders get the food they desire in a fashion that meets their needs.

  • Work closely with the neighborhood dietician to ensure diet modifications and individual preferences are well-known.

  • Prepare for meals, set up dining rooms, and ensure the kitchen is clean prior to leaving.

  • Prepare food per individual Elder requests and prescribed diets. Present food to Elders in an appealing manner.

  • Maintaining proper levels of food and non-food items per the daily stocking list, conducting inventories, and using proper requisitioning procedures.

  • Assist Care Staff with meal service by way of greeting Elders, verifying diet texture and diet type, confirming all hot and cold items are available, serving, clearing, and cleaning.

  • Proper cleaning and re-stocking must occur at the conclusion of service.

  • Clean tables, surfaces and appliances in kitchen and dining room.

  • Clean juice spouts and grates under all beverage stations.

  • Before break, make sure steam wells are filled with water and turned on for lunch.

  • In collaboration with the core team, assist with supporting the life of the neighborhood between meals as determined by the core team, including passing snacks and drinks to Elders which meet their preferences and dietary requirements.

  • Other non-direct care duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

  • 1 year of hospitality/service experience in a restaurant or comparable setting preferred.

  • Desire and Ability to interact with Elders and care for their needs.

  • Willingness to embrace and exemplify St. John’s Brand Characteristics.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift, bend and stand.

  • Walking, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, bending and reaching to accomplish tasks. Ability to lifting up to 50 lbs.

    Exposure to Conditions:

  • Possible exposure to wet, slippery surfaces, heat and steam, and knives.
