Queensbury UFSD Supervising Custodian - Middle School in Queensbury, New York

Supervising Custodian - Queensbury Union Free School District is recruiting for a Supervising Custodian. Located at the Middle School, 12 month position, 6 am - 2:30 pm Monday - Friday. Salary: $55,000 - $60,000, actual salary based on education and experience, plus benefits and NYS retirement

SUPERVISING CUSTODIAN

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is an important supervisory position involving responsibility for the efficient and economical cleaning and maintenance of a large school building or number of smaller buildings and related facilities. The work is performed under the general direction of a Facilities Department superior allowing leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in keeping buildings and facilities up to approved standards of cleanliness and operation. The position requires computer skills and the ability to use commercially available software programs to effectively perform daily work activities. Immediate supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate cleaning or maintenance personnel.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

Makes regular inspections of buildings and grounds to maintain proper cleaning and maintenance procedures and makes recommendations for improvements or new equipment;

Supervises, schedules and assigns cleaning and maintenance work of Custodians and/or Cleaners;

Inspects and otherwise exercises control over maintenance work performed by outside contractors;

Checks to insure that buildings are heated, cleaned, locked and unlocked and in readiness for all activities;

Keeps records and makes reports of supplies used and activities carried on;

Utilizes various software packages during the course of the day to monitor work orders and to monitor and track staff accountability and for other software that is routinely utilized for such things as: business-to-business online ordering, leaving accounting, basic energy management, and other office-type programs;

Assists with cleaning and maintenance activities when necessary;

Reports any acts of vandalism or breakage to the proper authorities.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good ability to plan and supervise the work of others; good knowledge of building and cleaning practices, supplies and equipment; good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a low pressure heating plant; working knowledge of the tools, terminology and practices of one or more skilled trades; ability to follow moderately difficult oral and written directions; ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; thoroughness; resourcefulness; dependability; strong customer service skills; good judgment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and

  • Three years of experience in building cleaning or maintenance work AND two years of experience supervising the work of others, or

  • Three years of experience in any of the standard mechanical trades, construction trades or closely related field, AND two years of experience supervising the work of others.
