SAFETY AIDE
We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Safety Aide to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an experienced Safety Aide for our Families w/ Children facility located in the Jamaica area of Queens, NY. As a Safety Aide, you will play a pivotal role in our organization, working within the security department, but collaborating with other units to ensure the safety and comfort of the families we serve. Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelter as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, afterschool clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrol interior and exterior areas of building.
Monitor the entry and exit of residents by maintaining a sign-in log and requiring identification.
Enforce rules and regulations.
Prepare incident reports or maintenance tickets on hazardous or dangerous conditions.
Learn the fire safety plan and evacuation procedures and assist in fire drills.
Prepare and assist in hazardous situations in the facility.
Intervene in incidents and assist in emergencies throughout the building.
Must be attentive to their post and could be standing for hours throughout their shift.
Assist in emergency building situations (e.g. shovel snow, clean up a spill, etc.)
Mandatory overtime which can include working a full double shift.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid NYS Security Guard License.
Current 8-hour certificate.
16-hour certificate.
F-02 (Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters) is a plus. F-02 must be obtained within 2 months of employment.
F-80 (Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters) is a plus.
