DIRECTOR OF AFTERSCHOOL & RECREATION

Homes for the Homeless, is actively seeking a Director of Afterschool & Recreation. The Director will be assigned to manage the day-to-day operations of a DYCD/DOMH after-school Program located in a Family Shelter in Queens, New York. The Director will oversee program development, staff management, and compliance with relevant regulations, and ensure that our services meet the unique needs of our families.

ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS

Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in shelter as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, afterschool clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events for the whole family.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Become familiar with the standards under DOMH, DYCD and OCFS-SACC regulations, to ensure the program is in compliance.

  • Supervise a team of youth workers and recreation coordinators.

  • Collaborate with staff to recruit participants between the ages of 5 and 16.

  • Create innovative and age-appropriate curriculums, enrichment activities and theme-based projects.

  • Ensure that the program reflects the interests and choices of the children.

  • Maintain an emotionally and physically safe environment.

  • This position requires occasional evening and weekend work to accommodate program schedules and community events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in child development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field.

  • Two years of direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.

  • At least one year in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field of work.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

SALARY

$65,000 - $ 70,000
