Director of Dining Services

The Highlands at Pittsford, Rochester’s only University-based retirement community, has an exciting and dynamic career opportunity as it seeks to fill the role of Director of Dining Services.

The Director of Dining Services will be responsible for overseeing the entire dining operation, while providing leadership and management of all dining operations, including food preparation/delivery and dining room services, ensuring the highest quality dining experience for residents and guests of The Highlands at Pittsford’s dining venues and special events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Implements, directs, and controls all operations of food service i.e., menu planning, food/supplies ordering, meal preparation and delivery, dining room services, and special events as determined by standards established by the Executive Director and regulatory agencies.

  • Directly supervises the Executive Chef, Sr. Dining Services Manager, Dining Services Manager, and Resident Events Coordinator, and their respective teams accordingly.

  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge of all operations including menu design, preparation of foods, and dining room operations

  • Stays abreast of trends in areas of expertise.

  • Demonstrates thorough and up-to-date knowledge of sanitation codes

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state and local DOH regulations

  • Oversees the organization and planning of resident, staff, and prospect special events in conjunction with the Resident Events Coordinator, and respective departments.

  • Ensures high standards of sanitation for all areas of operation.

  • Responsible for administering all personnel policies and procedures to ensure fair and equal treatment of employees with the guidance of Human Resources.

  • Responsible for the development of training programs, and staff training

  • Resolves complaints/problems and implements suggestions.

  • Ensures that kitchen and dining equipment/furnishings are adequate and in good repair.

  • Assures the ordering, monitoring serving, and security of all alcoholic products are maintained according to all community and State regulations

  • Provides hands-on support in both the front and back of the house as needed.

  • Oversees the operation of the Gift Shoppe

  • Consistently communicates with the entire team on general community updates, departmental updates, and important information

  • Actively maintains the POS and Reservation systems, utilizing the software to maximize the services and dining experience and meet the needs of the residents.

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Science, Hospitality, Food Administration, or related field with a minimum of five years restaurant/management CIA preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay Range: Min. $79,040-Max. $118,560 annually, Exempt.
