NJ Employer Agricultural Equipment Operators in Peru, New York

Workers referred as a result of this order must have a minimum of three (3) months of verifiable experience in performing the tasks described in this job description.

All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in this job description and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in box 3 & 4, page 1. This work order is for qualified people to perform a combination of tasks involved in the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of apples. Duties include: clearing fields; removing stones and brush by hand; tilling soil and applying fertilizers; transplanting, weeding thinning, and pruning apple trees; applying pesticides and herbicides; loading harvest products; constructing trellises; repairing fences and farm buildings; using hand tools such as shovels, hoes, saws, pruning hooks, shears, and knives; driving and operating tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow, and fertilize soil or to plant, cultivate, mow, spray, and harvest crops; repairing and maintaining farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment; and harvest apples by hand. Apples injured by bruising during picking shall not exceed 4% for fresh as defined in the U.S. Standards for Grades. During Apple harvest season (August through November) workers are required to ensure that their productivity must be at least 68-bushel boxes of fresh market apples per 8-hour day worked. Workers will be required to handle ladders up to 24' long and weighing about two pounds per foot. Workers should report for work with their own suitable work clothing. Only workers meeting all qualifications on the job order should be referred by the Job Service Office.
