Oneonta Job Corps Senior Cook in Oneonta, New York
Salary Range: $21.13 to $21.13 Hourly
Summary of position functions:
Oversees the cafeteria during assigned shift; prepares and oversees the preparation of meals.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures that serving lines are set up at the proper time for the meal period and that the food service staff are at their designated area and preparing for the meal
Assists in the preparation and service of daily meals
Ensures meals are wholesome and appetizing
Monitors the food service line during each meal and conducts temperature checks of each food item
Maintains inventory of food items and requests additional food as necessary
Assists in preparing weekly and monthly food service reports
Assists in cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and dining area
Maintains daily records of food costs and usage of food
Reports any unsafe and unsanitary conditions in the kitchen/dining area
Ensures leftover foods are properly covered and stored
Directs the work of students who are assigned to serve on the line and to do other work tasks in the kitchen and dining area

Skills and Competencies:
Demonstrated ability to plan, direct, or supervise the food preparation and cooking activities
Proven knowledge of all aspects of food handling, preparation, cooking, and good nutrition
Knowledge of food quantity for food production and service techniques, food safety/sanitization compliance regulations and procedures
Proven ability to plan, organize, and establish priorities for action
Excellent customer service skills; strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to multi-task and adapt to a fast-changing environment
Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Two years of work-related experience in a cafeteria/food service setting
Valid New York State Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
Must have the ability to lift up to 50lbs

Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and, or lifting light objects
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
Working Conditions:
Campus and school cafeteria setting
Indoor and outdoor environment
Exposure to heat from ovens, burners, and steam trays
Moderate exposure to fumes, smoke or gasses, solvents, greases and oils
Exposure to cutting and slicing equipment and other machinery with moving parts
Exposure to moderate to high volumes of noise from kitchen equipment and students
May be required to work a flexible schedule to include early evenings and, or weekends
