This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Staff Associate I is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers. This opportunity to join a newly funded research center, the R2P2 ReVAMPP Center, in the Center for Host-Pathogen Interaction in the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Staff Associate I is an exciting one. The purpose of the R2P2 ReVAMPP Center is to develop vaccines and antibody-based treatments for viruses in the Paramyxoviridae, Peribunyaviridae, and Phleboviridae families.
Key Responsibilties
The Center for Host-Pathogen Interaction within the Division of Critical Care Hospital and Palliative Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University is seeking a highly motivated research staff associate I in the laboratory of Dr. Anne Moscona. The individual will join a diverse group in The Center for Human Host Pathogen Interactions.
The Staff Associate I primary responsibilities are but not limited to:
- Contributing to projects on several viruses, specifically focused on mechanisms of entry and membrane fusion mediated by enveloped RNA viruses, and strategies to block entry.
- Assessing monoclonal antibodies for mechanisms of inhibiting entry of enveloped viruses.
- Conducting mechanistic assays to investigate viral entry, including developing new assays to understand entry mechanisms.
- Propagating viruses.
- Molecular biology methods and method development.
- Training individuals who join the lab in the methods and approaches used in the group.
- Preparing written reports of experiments, results, and preparing figures of publication-ready quality.
- Communicating with Dr. Moscona and other members of the Center as well as the collaborating groups in the R2P2 ReVAMPP Center at other institutions about ongoing projects.
- Contributing as needed to preparation of publications.
- Any other related research duties as assigned, including necessary laboratory maintenance tasks.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree in specific research field and 4 years of experience.
- Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.
