Description

Palmer Center is comprised of three 10-bed homes on one campus. The staff who work at Palmer Center are busy supporting the wonderful men and women who live here. It is helpful for employees to have experience working with the geriatric population and those who are medically frail, but it is not a requirement. The employees at Palmer Center support and encourage these wonderful people in many areas of their lives, as they strive to achieve their personal goals and desires, providing interaction and choices for activities that support a meaningful day.

This position reports to the Residential Coordinator and is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, comfortable and tidy environment for the people supported at Palmer Center.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in completion of pertinent forms and documentation related to housekeeping responsibilities and OSHA requirements while following agency policies and procedures.

  • Complete all areas assigned through shift responsibility sheets to ensure a healthy and safe living environment for individuals.

  • Floors: Sweep, scrub, mop and polish floors.

  • Carpets & Rugs: Vacuum, shampoo.

  • Outdoor Walkways and Mats: Sweep clean.

  • Windows: Clean all windows, screens, blinds, and ensure all are working properly.

  • Furniture & Casings: Dust and polish all furniture and casings.

  • Bathrooms: Clean wash floors, tiles, basins, toilets, mirrors, tubs, showers and metal fixtures.

  • Electrical & Lighting: Report any lights and outlet outages not working.

  • Laundry Rooms: Maintain Eye Wash stations and Material Safety Data binders.

  • General: Remove all trash, clean receptacles, and clean vents.

  • Report any concerns or damage to program structure or furniture, flooring, windows, etc.

  • Respond to calls for any emergent housekeeping tasks.

  • Individual Rooms: Perform all housekeeping duties, sanitize mattresses, organize dressers, inspect all drawer stops are working, draperies are clean and properly hung.

  • Kitchen Pantry Areas: Clean and organize all areas and cabinetry, clean ovens and hoods monthly.

  • Janitorial Supplies & Closet: Ensure knowledge of all products, usage, supplies and equipment.

  • Assist independent individuals occasionally with housekeeping tasks such as organizing their rooms, putting away laundry in drawers/closets, organizing clothing, etc.

  • Clean individuals’ wheelchairs when not in use

  • Deep clean on a regular basis to remove allergens, bacteria and germs.

    SCHEDULE: On-Call/as needed - schedule based on needs of program

    STARTING SALARY: $15.50 to $ 17.05 per hour

Minimum Requirements

  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the job as described in the essential duties, task and responsibilities sections including; walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, reaching overhead and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.

  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitation products, techniques and methods and of cleaning sensitive materials

  • NYS Drivers License that meets agency policy.

  • Basic computer skills
