What you'll do Under the direction of the Network Director of Public Safety and Transportation or the Manager of Security Operations, the Security Officer II performs a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in the safeguard of employees, patients, visitors and property as outlined in the Bassett Healthcare Network (BHN) policy manuals. Provide parking enforcement and traffic control for all patients, visitors, and employees throughout hospital property. Gives appropriate assistance to all when needed or requested. Must obtain minimum score of 230 or higher on the NYS Basic Course for Police/Security Officers with a B-27 target. Officer failing to meet the standard will be given remediation training and a second attempt at meeting the standard. Qualifications with the duty firearm will be held annually, in accordance with NYS rules and regulations, and any additional firearms training required by the Network Director of Public Safety of Transportation. Security and Safety: Enforces procedural rules and regulations. Ensures the personal safety of staff, visitors, patients, and property of BHN. Maintains security and safety to assigned areas. Maintains working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes, and admitting requirements Patrols assigned areas including all buildings within the main campus, including but not limited to the hospital, support areas, clinic, data center and storage facilities, parking lots, and affiliated properties within the Bassett Healthcare system. Checks for suspicious occurrences. Operates and monitor security control panel alarms, surveillance cameras, and related security equipment to provide property, area, and visitor security. Issue photo identifications for all new employees and replacement of old I.D’s for existing staff. Checks ID cards of persons entering the facility. Refuses to admit persons who cannot show either proper authorization or cause for being admitted. Provides information and directions. Explains rules and regulations. Opens and closes facility, ensuring that users have left the premises. Reports security and general maintenance problems to the proper authorities. Controls access to all locked areas, allowing access to authorized personnel only. Conducts night watchman patrols and special patrols required by standing or special instructions. Maintains proper logs and activities as per policy. Takes immediate action when codes or other emergencies arise on the campus. Monitors, detains, restrains, and effectively manages disruptive or combatant patients. Reviews all hospital policies and procedures at least once per year, and provide feedback to the Security Manager or Corporate Support Services Director on needed or recommended changes to existing or new policies. Responds to all pages received within 5 minutes of the page, responds to emergencies, all codes, and spills. Contacts the On Call grounds crew for snow removal at pre-designated times and amounts. Coordinates and is in attendance at all helicopter take-off and landings as required by hospital policy and insurance carrier. Parking and Enforcement: Enforces parking and policy procedural rules and regulations. Ensures parking is provided for patients, visitors, and staff through effective enforcement of applicable polices. Enforces parking rules and regulations. Checks vehicles in patient and private parking lots for authorized parking sticker. Issues parking violation warnings, and tags and requests towing as per policy. Assigns designated parking areas for staff, issues BHN entity parking stickers, and maintains the parking database. Assigns special parking permits and durations, contacts staff for notice of renewal as per policy. Performs patrols of parking lots, or maintains watch at designated parking areas for assistance and enforcement. Assists patients, visitors, and staff when requested for lockouts, flat tires, jump-starts, and other such situations. Maintains quiet and order in all public places on the campus. Responds to and investigates situations reported to the Security Office regarding theft, vandalism, damage to vehicles, drug diversions, and missing persons. Completes necessary information and maintains a log of all incidents that occur during the course of each shift and may use computer terminal to input and retrieve data. Assists all law enforcement agencies when requested or required within the boundaries of hospital regulation, policies and procedures and HIPPA regulations. This will include locating employees, various types of information, brief relief for guarding inpatient prisoners, etc. Reports all MVA’s to the Manager of Security and complete all necessary documentation, reports, descriptions, and photos to assist in the investigation by outside agencies including NYS Police, village P.D., and insurance agencies affiliated with of the hospital. Calls Village Police Department or other authorities if required. Maintains liaison with local police agencies and assists in investigations as required and prepares reports on findings. Collects and transport money, and handles small amounts of cash and transactions when necessary. Responsible for lost and found items and maintenance of applicable logs and records. Receives and maintains patient valuables in safekeeping for the duration of the hospitalization the patient utilizing proper double bag and signature procedures. Maintains records and logs. Check identification, power of attorney, etc. if a family member or friend of the patient signs for the valuables. Responds and receives shipments of goods to the hospital after regular hours coordinating activities with Materials Management. Assist Funeral Directors with prompt and courteous access and provide records and receipt of personal belongings of the deceased. Maintain appropriate logs and records. Acts as a messenger/courier for in house transport of special reports, hazardous materials, warehouse supplies or other special duties as needed or required. Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager. Maintains 100% attendance to all divisional or staff meetings unless prior authorization of the Manager or Director What we need from you Education: 2 year / Associate Degree in Security or Law Enforcement, preferred Experience: Minimum one year experience as a security officer in a public or private security force, or two years active military service with Honorable Discharge, required Associate Degree in Security or Law Enforcement may be substituted for one year of experience Completion of official police or peace officer training academy. This training may replace some required experience/certifications Licensure/Certifications: Valid NYS Armed Security Guard License or NYS Certified Police Officer/ Peace Officer, preferred NYS Driver's License, required CPR/AED and First Aid required within 120 days of hire Aerosol Subject Restraint (Pepper Spray) Certification required within 120 of hire. Completion of official police or peace officer training academy may substitute this requirement. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
