The Department offers the Bachelor of Music degree in performance, the Bachelor of Arts (in performance, composition, or musicology), and the Master of Music degree with concentrations in opera/voice, collaborative piano, instrumental performance, conducting, composition, music history and literature.

Job Description

The Department of Music at Binghamton University (SUNY) seeks to hire a Vocal Coach and Collaborative Pianist. The initial appointment is for up to three years, as a full-time lecturer beginning on August 18, 2025, with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will be a dynamic vocal coach and ensemble artist with excellent piano skills and a significant knowledge of languages and vocal repertoire. The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide weekly coaching to Graduate and Undergraduate vocal performance majors.

  • Work as a studio pianist for Graduate and Undergraduate voice lessons.

  • Work closely with faculty in other related fields including opera, instrumental performance, chamber music and composition.

  • Collaborate with Vocal Performance majors and faculty on departmental and degree recitals.

Additional areas of teaching may be determined depending on departmental needs and the candidate's specific interests, expertise, and qualifications.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Vocal Coaching, Collaborative Piano, or closely related field, by August 18, 2025

  • Extensive experience in vocal/operatic repertoire

  • Knowledge of various repertoire from all major historical periods

  • Record of achievement as an actively performing, collaborative artist

  • A professional performance profile in various classical and related musical styles

  • Experience working as a vocal coach with proficiency in French, German, Italian and English language lyric diction

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Commitment to mentoring students

  • Open to diverse musical styles and ways of learning/teaching

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate or ABD in Collaborative Piano or related field by August 18, 2025

  • Collegiate or requisite professional vocal coaching experience
