HANAC, Inc. Kitchen Aide in Astoria, New York

HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.

HANAC Ravenswood Senior Center, a leading Community-Based organization in the Ravenswood area is seeking a Part-Time Kitchen Aide. The successful candidate will perform their responsibilities under the direction of the Head Cook or Director which will include being involved in all aspects of food preparation and service and with the cleanup of the kitchen and service area, dining room, and storage areas.

Rate per hour: $18.96

Hours per week: 28 hrs.

Required Schedule: Monday - Thursday 8:45 am – 2:45 pm, Friday 8:45 am – 3:15 pm 

Location: 34-35 A 12th Street Astoria, NY 11106

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Morning set-up includes coffee service, steam table replacement water, and start

  • Unpack and store morning deliveries

  • Move from storage to prep to service area all foods, and paper products required for the day

  • Prepare the meal service area – serving pieces, dishes,

  • Assist with food service.

  • Clean kitchen, serving area, pots, pans, steam trays, tables, stove, ovens, shelves, work surfaces, utensils, and dining room in preparation for the next day.

  • Assist in prepping food required for the next-day menu.

  • Assist with inventory and organizing storerooms.

  • May substitute for cook’s helper, and dining room aide, as requested.

  • Assist in any additional service required by special events and parties.

  • Perform other tasks as requested and assigned.

  • Maintain adherence to all sanitation standards

  • Maintain condiments and other supplies filled and readily available to use by the cooking team.

  • Attend all training as required.

    Qualifications:

  • High school diploma.

  • English Speaking is helpful.

  • Minimally must be able to understand directions in food preparation, storage, and cleanup, in order to comply with NYC DOH sanitation standards.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds on an intermittent basis and 30 pounds on a regular basis, and bend, squat, kneel, stretch hands overhead, lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds on a regular basis.

  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the commencement of employment or adhere to enhanced protocols if the Company determines your job position requires accessing a HANAC worksite.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time

  • Ability to work effectively as a team

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to safely use kitchen equipment and appliances

  • Understanding of proper food handling and sanitation procedures
