Albany International Airport Custodial Worker in Albany, New York

POSITION: Custodial Worker

This position follows all provisions of the SMART/UTU collective bargaining agreement.

REPORTS TO: Custodial Services Supervisor

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport

SUMMARY

Keeps designated facilities in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs or otherwise cleans windows, offices, breakrooms, hallways, bathrooms and public areas as assigned.

  • Operates floor cleaners, vacuums and other cleaning machines.

  • Maintains an inventory of cleaning supplies.

  • Replenishes soap and paper dispensers.

  • Empties trash and garbage containers.

  • Notifies supervision of the need for building or cleaning equipment repairs

  • Runs errands as necessary.

  • Participates in Total Quality Management programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of number. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand walk; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
